Josh Beckett is headed to the 15-day disabled list for the Boston Red Sox because of inflammation in his right shoulder, according to tweets from Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe on Saturday afternoon.
While the severity of the inflammation is not yet known, the best case scenario for Beckett’s return is by the end of June.
Cafardo also tweeted that Clayton Mortenson will replace Beckett but that Frank Morales will pitch in Beckett’s place on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs. It will be Morales’ first start in Major League Baseball since he played for the Colorado Rockies in 2009.
