The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they will release veteran outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, who was playing well for the team’s Triple-A affiliate, at his request so he can pursue a spot on a major league roster with another team, reports CBS Sports‘ Jon Heyman.

The 37-year-old Guerrero was hitting over .300 in the minors. Heyman reports Guerrero felt ready to return to the big leagues, but Toronto did not have room to its roster for him.

“He has no intention of retiring,” Guerrero’s agent told Heyman.

Guerrero hit .290 with 11 homers in 145 games with the Baltimore Orioles last season. The previous year, he had been an All-Star while hitting .300 with 29 home runs for the Texas Rangers.
