Report: Jorge Soler accepts Chicago Cubs offer
Jorge Soler’s quest for an MLB roster spot appears to be over. The 20-year-old Cuban outfielder has accepted an offer from the Chicago Cubs, according to a tweet by the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.
I hear the #Cubs won out for Jorge Soler. #Yankees tried, but didn't get him.—

Soler defected from his home country last year and became an MLB free agent on June 2nd after being unblocked by the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Since then, he has been one of the hottest names on the market for a multitude of teams around baseball. The New York Yankees also submitted a bid, but Soler apparently liked what the Cubs had to offer a little bit more. CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman elaborates:
hear there were a few — at least 3 or 4 — teams over $20M on soler. but #cubs stepped up. right about $30M is the number.—
