David Diehl apologizes after DWI arrest

NFL

New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl apologized on Twitter Monday evening, a day after he was arrested  and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Just before 7 p.m., Diehl took to Twitter to apologize to family, fans, teammates and the Giants organization, saying he had “worked hard during my career to set a positive example.”

According to reports, police responded to calls about a vehicle accident shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday. They found that Diehl was driving a BMW that had hit several parked cars. Upon taking a breathalyzer test, Diehl was found to have a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Before his arrest Sunday, Diehl had been tweeting about the Euro 2012 soccer match between Ireland and Croatia, where he has roots.

This would be the first legal issue for Diehl, who has started all but four games during his nine-year career with the Giants.
