Report: Petr Sykora to return to Devils’ lineup for Game 4 of Stanley Cup Final
Veteran winger Petr Sykora will return to the New Jersey Devils’ lineup on Wednesday for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, as coach Peter DeBoer searches for offense. (The Devils have managed just two goals in the first three games.)
“Of course I’m excited. Hopefully I can bring some spark to the team,” Sykora said. “I’m just going to go out there and try to play my best game.”
DeBoer would not acknowledge that Sykora will see the ice, but Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Sykora skated on a line with Patrik Elias and Dainius Zubrus during Tuesday’s practice.
“He’s an option for us,” is all DeBoer would say. “We’re going to consider him. We haven’t scored. He’s a guy that doesn’t need a lot of looks to stick one in the net. That’s what he does best. So he’s definitely an option.”
Sykora, 35, hasn’t played since Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final against the New York Rangers on May 19. However, he is playoff-tested (this is his fifth Stanley Cup Final) and has a knack for scoring big goals (32 goals in 115 career playoff games).
