New York Rangers right wing Marian Gaborik will have off-season surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, the team’s website reported today. The surgery will take place on June 6 and will be performed in New York by Dr. Andrew Feldman and Dr. Anothony Maddalo. He is unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2012-13 season.
The Slovakian newspaper SME first reported that Gaborik needed shoulder surgery, and NHL.com said Gaborik reportedly had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed the damage. “MRI showed that I had a torn rotator cuff,” Gaborik told reporters in his hometown of Trencin, Slovakia.
Gaborik finished third in the league with 41 goals this season and led the team in points with 76, ranking 15th in the NHL. In 20 postseason games, Gaborik scored five goals.
