Minnesota Vikings cornerback Asher Allen has decided to retire only after three seasons, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier announced at a press conference at Wednesday.
No reason was given for the sudden retirement and was not health-related according to Frazier.
The Vikings are attempting to upgrade their secondary by adding Chris Carr and Zackary Bowman in free agency, and with Antoine Winfield and Chris Cook as probable starters. The Vikings defense was next to last in points given up, surrendering 28 points a game and ranked 26th in the league in pass defense last season.
Asher recorded 49 tackles and one interception while starting nine games for the 3-13 Vikings in 2011.
