Report: Boston Red Sox call up Scott Podsednik

MLB

The Boston Red Sox are calling up veteran outfielder Scott Podsednik from the team’s Triple-A affiliate, reports FoxSports.com‘s Ken Rosenthal.

The 36-year-old Podsednik has played 10 seasons in the big leagues and last appeared in the majors with the Dodgers in 2010. He bounced around the minor leagues with the Blue Jays and Phillies last season while battling injuries.

The Red Sox acquired Podsednik in a trade on May 11. Boston outfielder Cody Ross broke a bone in his left foot and could be out for six to eight weeks, creating a need for outfield help. Podsednik is a career .279 hitter known for his speed. He led the majors in stolen bases in 2004 with 70.
