Dodgers Place Matt Kemp On Disabled List

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed outfielder Matt Kemp on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“I’m very disappointed,” Kemp said. “I want to be with my team playing, but I have to get my leg [well].

Kemp, 27, is hitting .359 with 12 home runs and 28 RBIs so far this season but injured his hamstring while running out a ground ball on May 5. Since then, he’s hitting just .174, according to the Times.

“We have to make sure this doesn’t turn into a long-term thing,” said Manager Don Mattingly. “We don’t want it to go from a Grade 1 to a Grade 2 and he’s out for four weeks. This way he has a chance to get healthy.”

Mattingly expects Kemp back at the end of his DL term, according to the Times. To replace Kemp iin the roster, the Dodgers recalled Jerry Sands from Triple-A Albuquerque.
