The St. Louis Cardinals have released reliever J.C. Romero, the team announced this morning.

Romero, a 14-year veteran, signed an incentive-laden deal with the Cardinals in December worth $750,000. He had a miserable start in St. Louis, posting a 10.13 ERA in eight innings of work, including allowing three home runs.

Romero turns 36 years old next month. Originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 21st round of the 1997 draft, Romero has pitched for six major-league teams. He has a career ERA of 4.15.
