Report: Adrian Peterson Would Be ‘Very Surprised’ If Not Ready For Week 1

NFL

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said today he’d be “very surprised” if he wasn’t ready to play by Week 1 of the 2012 season, according to CBS.

Peterson tore his ACL during Week 16 of the 2011 season, during a game against the Washington Redskins; he underwent surgery on Dec. 30 to repair the injured knee, and a recovery time of eight to nine months was expected.

Vikings head trainer Eric Sugarman expressed caution about Peterson yesterday, saying a Week 1 return was “obviously our goal” but not a guarantee. Peterson, for his part, said he felt “light years better” than he did upon first injuring the knee, and he already felt 50 percent better.

Peterson, 27, is a four-time All-Pro running back. He had 208 carries for 907 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, and he’a amassed 6,752 yards and 64 TDs over the course of his five-year career.
