Report: Knicks’ Amare Stoudemire Punches Fire Extinguisher, Injures Hand

Amare Stoudemire and the New York Knicks already had it bad enough, dropping back-to-back games to open their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series against the Miami Heat. But now injury has been added to insult — the Knicks’ power forward reportedly hurt himself after the game, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

A source told Spears that Stoudemire punched the glass that enclosed a fire extinguisher; Knicks GM Glen Grunwald and head coach Mike Woodson have both confirmed that Stoudemire has a cut.

“I’m not going to comment until I find out more about what’s going on,” Woodson said in his postgame news conference. “[Stoudemire] has a cut. That’s all I know at this point.”

Stoudemire had 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting plus seven rebounds, but the Knicks lost 104-94 on the road to fall behind 2-0 against the Heat. Game 3 will be back in New York at 7 p.m. Thursday; Stoudemire’s status for that game is yet unknown.
