Report: Suspended Saints Coach Sean Payton Considering TV Job
New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton is suspended without pay for all of this season, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s out of football altogether — Payton said yesterday he was considering a temporary gig as a television commentator, according to John DeShazier of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
In addition to a possible TV job, Payton also said he would enjoy having more time to spend with his family — in particular, getting to help coach the team of his 12-year-old son, Connor.
“Doing a few things that you normally wouldn’t be able to do,” Payton said.
Payton was suspended for the entire season on March 21, on account of his role in the Saints’ bounty program that was in place for three years under his watch. He has since apologized for his actions, and he took the opportunity yesterday to thank New Orleans’ fans for their support in the scandal’s aftermath.
“We’ve got the greatest fans in this sport,” he said. “There’s a close relationship that I … don’t take for granted.”
