Report: Theo Epstein Declines To Attend Red Sox’ Fenway Park Celebration
Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein was invited to the centennial celebration of his old workplace, Boston’s Fenway Park, but he has declined to attend tomorrow’s festivities, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The Boston Red Sox are planning a presentation tomorrow to celebrate Fenway’s 100th anniversary, and reportedly they waited until the last possible opportunity — today — to invite their former general manager. Epstein said no, opting instead to attend the Cubs’ home game at Wrigley Field against the Cincinnati Reds.
“I hope tomorrow is a great day for the Red Sox fans and the whole organization,” Epstein wrote in an email to the Tribune. “I have plans to be at the Cubs game, but I will take a moment to toast Fenway along with everyone else who loves the ballpark.”
Epstein, 38, ran the Red Sox for eight years between November 2002 and the end of the 2010 season. He built two championship teams, including the 2004 club that ended the franchise’s 86-year World Series drought.
