It’s been suspected for some time now that the Sacramento Kings are considering a relocation, but the Kings want the world to know they’re staying put, according to the Sacramento Bee.
“That’s not true, that’s not true,” owner Joe Maloof said of the moving rumors. “I swear that is not going to happen. I don’t care what rumors are out there. It’s our team. We’re not selling, and we’re not leaving. Our identity is the Sacramento Kings. That’s how we’re known.”
The speculation was that the Kings would remain in Sacramento next season, but file in March 2013 for relocation; Maloof denies it. While there was a lot of buzz about the Kings possibly going to Anaheim, the owner has downplayed that talk and insisted Sacramento is still home.
It’s easy to see why the Kings are a prime candidate for a move — their attendance numbers have been dismal. The Kings’ performance on the floor has not helped — the team is 19-41 this season, second-worst in the Western Conference and fourth-worst in the NBA.
