Miami-Dade Officials Want Ozzie Guillen Fired Over Castro Comments
Miami Marlins new manager Ozzie Guillen caused a stir in south Florida after he said he “loved” Fidel Castro in an upcoming article to be published by Time Magazine. Guillen has since apologized, but Miami-Dade officials are not appeased, urging Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria to force Guillen to resign, according to the Miami Sun-Sentinel.
Joe A. Martinez said in an open letter to the media that “there is no alternative that would be satisfactory.” The letter goes on to state that “[saying] you respect Fidel Castro, suggests he also respects dictators such as Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega, Adolf Hitler and Sadam Hussein.”
Miami-Dade mayor Carlos Gimenez also released a statement condemning Guillen’s comments.
“I now challenge them [Marlins ownership] to take decisive steps to bring this community back together,” Gimenez’s said, according to the report.
