Robert Griffin III Tells Jon Gruden He Is The Top Pick
Former Baylor star quarterback and top draft prospect Robert Griffin III told former NFL coach and ESPN broadcaster Jon Gruden that even if Andrew Luck is chosen first in the upcoming draft, he believes he also deserves to be the No. 1 overall pick, according to NFL.com.
“There’s two No. 1 picks. Washington didn’t trade up to No. 2 to pick a guy at No. 2, they’re going to pick a guy they’d pick at No. 1. Really, in this draft, there are two No. 1 picks. That’s why I won’t be mad if Andy goes first,” Griffin told the former NFL coach on ESPN’s “Gruden Camp.”
“The one thing I’ve always said: I don’t play against quarterbacks, I play against defenses,” Griffin continued. “No matter what, it’s going to be ‘Luck vs. Griffin’ for the rest of our careers. We always know that we’ll be compared side-by-side.”
With Andrew Luck widely believed to be chosen first by the Indianapolis Colts on April 26, Griffin will likely be picked second by the Washington Redskins. Washington traded three first-round picks and a second-round pick in March to acquire the second overall pick from the St.Louis Rams.
