Giants Close To Deal With SP Matt Cain For Five-Year $110 Million Deal





The San Francisco Giants and very close to a contract extension with starting pitcher Matt Cain for a five-year $110 million deal, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.

In six Cactus League exhibition game starts this Spring, Cain was 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA with 24 strikeouts and just three walks. Coaches have remarked that he appears to be in the shape of his career.
Last season, Cain was 12-8 with a 2.88 ERA and tossed 179 strikeouts.
The Giants and Cain’s agents were previously struggling to come to an agreement to extend the starting pitcher’s contract. Cain maintained that his absolute floor was five years and $100 million.
