Hines Ward Announces Retirement

NFL

Hines Ward announced that he would retire today at a press conference held by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I don’t want to play in any other uniform,” a tearful Ward said.

The Steelers had released Ward, their all-time leading receiver, earlier this month. Ward earned $4 million in 2011 but prior to being released he said he would restructure the two years remaining on his deal in order to remain with the team.  He finished the season with 46 receptions for 381 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games for Pittsburgh.

Over the course of his career Ward caught 1000 passes for 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns. He spent his entire career with Pittsburgh.
