The Boston Bruins have signed team “tough guy” Shawn Thornton to a two-year contract extension with a $1.1 million annual average cap hit, according to Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe.
Thornton has four goals and eight assists in 70 games for the B’s this season; he also leads the entire NHL with 19 fights.
The 34-year-old Ontario native originally signed with the Bruins as a free agent on July 1, 2007. He previously played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks. He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1997, 190th overall.
