Padres Re-Sign Outfielder Cameron Maybin Through 2016
The San Diego Padres are making a long-term commitment to outfielder Cameron Maybin — the AP reports that Maybin has agreed to terms on a contract that runs through at least 2016.
Maybin, who turns 25 next month, had a breakout season last year with 40 stolen bases. He came to the Padres via a trade with the then-Florida Marlins in November 2010.
The new contract includes a team option for 2017, with financial terms not disclosed. Maybin would have been eligible for arbitration after this season and free agency in 2016.
“Cameron has certainly emerged as a core player,” Padres GM Josh Byrnes said in a news release. “During his time with the Padres, he has impressed us with his play and with his character. He has shown us that he is committed to the Padres, and we are happy to secure his rights through 2017.”
