Attorney David Cornwell Says Ryan Braun Was ‘Properly Vindicated’
The matter of Ryan Braun’s positive drug test and resultant 50-game suspension was resolved a week ago, with the Brewers slugger being cleared last Thursday and the suspension nixed. But the dialogue continues — Braun’s attorney David Cornwell has now released a statement, saying that Braun was “properly vindicated”:
“Ryan Braun was properly vindicated,” Cornwell said, according to the Milwaulee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel. “Both Major League Baseball and Major League Baseball Players Association should be applauded because their Joint Program worked.”
Cornwell’s statement was in response to a statement from urine collector Dino Laurenzi, Jr., who was responding to an insinuation from Braun that there may have been some tampering with his urine sample.
Braun last week became the first major league player ever to overturn a positive drug test. Cornwell successfully argued in arbitration that the chain of custody was in question because Laurenzi took 44 hours to ship Braun’s sample to the lab in Montreal.
