Report: Pittsburgh Steelers Do Not Plan To Franchise Tag Mike Wallace

The Pittsburgh Steelers do not intend to franchise tag wide receiver Mike Wallace, sources have told ESPN.

They instead intend to tender him, ESPN reports, which would allow another team to attempt to sign him to an offer sheet. The Steelers would have the right to match any offer, and if they decline, they could receive a first round pick in return.

Last week, Steelers general manager Mike Colbert said that he would like Wallace to stay with the club his entire career.

“We’re going to do everything we can to make sure Mike Wallace remains a Pittsburgh Steeler.” Colbert told ProFootballTalk, “And I think that’s Mike’s hope as well. Usually when you have two parties that share the same goal, it’s easier to achieve that goal.”

This past season he had 72 receptions for 1,193 yards and scored eight touchdowns. Throughout his career with the Steelers he has had 181 receptions for 3,206 yards and has scored 24 total touchdowns.
