Report: Oakland Athletics And Manny Ramirez Agree On One-Year Deal
Former All-Star outfielder Manny Ramirez has agreed to a one-year deal with the Oakland Athletics, according to ESPN Los Angeles.
The deal is reportedly worth $500,000. Ramirez, who missed nearly the entirety of 2011, will be forced to sit out a 50 game suspension for performance enhancing drugs before he can play an inning with the Athletics.
Ramirez was given the 50 game suspension last April. Rather than serving his suspension and continuing the season with the Tampa Bay Rays, Ramirez decided to announce his retirement.
Over the course of his career, the 39-year-old has hit .312/.411/.585 with 555 home runs and 2,574 hits.
