Kyrie Irving Close To Returning To Cavaliers

NBA

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving did some noncontact work on Monday and could return as early as Wednesday, according to ESPN.com.

“He did everything that had to do with noncontact,” Cavaliers coach Byron Scott said.

Irving has missed two games after banging his head off Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade’s knee last week, according to ESPN.com.

“The hope is for him to get re-evaluated, then the doctors will tell us exactly where he stands and we’ll go from there,” Scott said. “I’m hoping I get him back Wednesday, but if not I’m also trying to prepare for the worst.”

Irving, 19, was selected by the Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He has averaged 18.0 points, 5.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game this season for Cleveland.
