Rangers Announce Three-Year Contract Extension For Elvis Andrus

Elvis Andrus has been the everyday shortstop for the Texas Rangers for three years, two of which ended in World Series appearances, and as such, he’s worthy of a healthy raise. Now it appears he’ll get one.

In only his third year of big-league service time, Andrus made a modest $450,000 last season. He was headed for arbitration with a request of $3.6 million, with the Rangers countering at $2.65 mil — the exact figures of Andrus’ deal are yet unknown, but assuming somewhere in the middle, the scrappy infielder is looking at more than a 500 percent raise. Not bad for a 23-year-old.

Andrus has a .340 on-base percentage and 102 career stolen bases for the Rangers. He originally broke into pro baseball in the Braves’ system before being dealt to Texas in the Mark Teixeira deadline deal of 2007.
