More than three decades after the two basketball legends arrived on the national stage, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird are about to appear on a literal stage — as the two lead characters in a new Broadway play.
The story of the leading Laker and Celtic star — their rivalry, their friendship and everything in between — will be the subject of “Magic/Bird,” a new show opening in April.
“I guess it’s the real Showtime,” Johnson told the AP.
For the show’s two producers, Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser, it’s the second in a series of sports-themed plays. The two also produced “Lombardi,” the story of legendary Packers coach Vince Lombardi.
