Report: Jets Pressured Brian Schottenheimer Into Resignation
The New York Jets reportedly informed offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to find a new coaching gig or leave the team, a source has told Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.
As a result, Schottenheimer tendered his resignation with the team yesterday after learning that he would not be named the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“After much thought and consideration, I have decided not to return to the New York Jets in 2012,” said Schottenheimer in a statement released by the Jets. “I am very proud of what we have accomplished in the six years I have been here.”
The New York Jets offense struggled in 2011 under Schottenheimer and quarterback Mark Sanchez. The team finished 8-8 on the season, missing out on the playoffs for the first time during the Rex Ryan era in New York.
