Mike Stoops will officially join the Oklahoma Sooners coaching staff as the team’s co-defensive coordinator, according to a tweet by ESPN’s Joe Schad.

Stoops, 50, had previously served as an assistant coach with Oklahoma from 1999-2003 before taking over as the head coach of Arizona University in 2004. In eight season with the Wildcats Stoops posted a 41-50 overall record. He was relieved of his duties Oct. 10 after Arizona got off to a 1-5 start.

Mike Stoops is the younger brother of current Sooners head coach Bob Stoops, who has served at that position since 1999.
