Philbin has been the coordinator for the NFL’s most prolific offense this season. The 15-1 Packers led the NFL in points scored with 560 this year, while starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected by many to be named the league’s Most Valuable Player. In 2010 his offensive craftsmanship helped Green Bay claim a Super Bowl victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Philbin has served as the offensive coordinator for the Packers since 2007, a period in which the team has continuously had one of the better offenses in the NFL. He has been a member of the Packers’ coaching staff since 2003, but has no college or professional head coaching experience.
The vacancy in Kansas City became available when former head coach Todd Haley was fired Dec. 12 after a disappointing 5-8 start for the Chiefs. Overall Haley led the Chiefs to a 19-27 record during his three year stint with Kansas City. In 2010 the club posted an AFC West leading 10-6 record.
