Shannon Brown, who opted out of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers prior to the lockout, will sign a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Phoenix Suns, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wajnawroski.

It was reported that the Lakers would not be able to offer more than $2.5 million to the point guard who set career highs last season averaging 8.7points and 1.2 assists per game.

The Suns will utilize Brown as Steve Nash’s backup. In 2010-11, Aaron Brooks served as the backup point guard for Phoenix, however he will likely be unable to opt-out of his contract with the Chinese team he signed with during the lockout.
