Kansas to Name Charlie Weis Head Coach

NCAAF

The Kansas Jayhawks will name current Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis head coach, the school announced Thursday. There will be a press conference Friday.

Weis’ first head coaching job came in 2005 when he took over Notre Dame. He went 35-27 in five years in South Bend, before being fired in 2009. Weis then spent 2010 as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, then taking the same position at Florida under new head coach Will Muschamp. The Gators were a disappointing 6-6 in Muschamp’s first year.

Often hailed an offensive genius, Weis’ Gators ranked 102nd in total offense in 2011. He will inherit a program at Kansas that was 2-10 this season under head coach Turner Gill. Gill finished his Jayhawk career 5-19.
