Nets GM Denies Reports About Potential Dwight Howard Trade
New Jersey Nets general manager Billy King denied reports that his club was in negotiations to trade for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, the Associated Press reports.
“I’ll go on the record that I haven’t talked to Orlando about a trade since February, right before the trade deadline,” King said at a press conference, according to the Associated Press. “I have not had any conversations at all with my good friend Otis (Smith, the Magic general manager).
“So, I don’t know where that is coming from.”
It was reported earlier today by ESPN that the Nets were prepared to offer the Magic a trade for Howard that included former first-round pick Brook Lopez as well as two future first-round picks. Howard is slotted to become a free-agent following the 2011-12 season, and it is not known whether he will be willing to return to Orlando with a long-term deal. As such, rumors have arose that the Magic may attempt to trade the former three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
