Report: Tampa Bay Rays Sign Jose Molina

MLB

The Tampa Bay Rays have signed catcher Jose Molina, according to a tweet from Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman.

Molina, 36, played 55 games for the Toronto Blue Jays last season behind J.P Arencibia. He has previously played for the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Yankees.

Last season Molina hit .281/.342/.415 in 191 plate appearances for Toronto. Throughout his 12-year-career he has a 162 game average of .241/.286/.344 with seven home runs and 40 RBI. Heyman suggests the move was done by the Rays to sure up their defensive options behind the plate.

Jose is brothers with St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, and former major league catcher Bengie Molina. The three are the only trio of brothers to have each earned a World Series ring in MLB history.
