Bobby Valentine is the newest name to be connected with the open Boston Red Sox managerial position, according to MLB.com. Valentine has most recently managed in Japan.

Sources have told MLB.com that Red Sox executives have spoken with Valentine, but no interview has been scheduled.

General manager Ben Cherington will be in the Dominican Republic for the weekend, so there will be little movement with regards to the search until he returns. He says a new candidate will be identified next week.

Valentine, who managed both the New York Mets and Texas Rangers, is currently an analyst for ESPN.
