New England Patriots defensive lineman Andre Carter has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week by the NFL, according to the team’s official website.

The 32-year-old posted 4.5 sacks  in the Patriots’ 37-16 victory over the New York Jets last Sunday, setting a franchise record. The star defensive lineman now has a team-leading 9.0 sacks on the season.

This week’s honor marks the second time in Carter’s career he has earned a Player of  the Week nod, the last was in 2001 during his rookie season with the San Francisco 49ers.

Fellow Patriot and quarterback Tom Brady also earned Player of the Week honors for his stellar offensive performances twice this season, after Week 1 and Week 2.
