Colorado Rockies Buy Out Aaron Cook’s Contract

MLB

NBC Sports reports that the Colorado Rockies have decided to decline pitcher Aaron Cook’s option, and buyout the remaining $11 million on his contract for $500,000.

Cook has been battered by injuries, allowing him to pitch just 97 innings last season.  In 17 starts, he posted a 3-10 record with a 6.03 ERA.

The 32-year-old right hander has seen a decline in the number of innings he’s thrown for the past three seasons, tossing 158 innings in 2009, 128 in 2010, and 97 this year.

Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd told Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post that Cook is welcome to re-sign with the Rockies, but he will likely see a decrease in his pay.
