Javier Lopez, a left-handed reliever, has agreed to re-sign with the San Francisco Giants, sources have told the Associated Press. The club will reportedly pay Lopez $8.5 million over two years. Lopez was set to become a free agent if the Giants would not have signed him.
Lopez, 34, came over from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010 and was instrumental in the Giants’ World Series run. Since his acquisition, Lopez has appeared in 97 games, going 7-2 with a 2.38 ERA.
In 2011, Lopez made just under $2.4 million and came up two innings short of 55 innings pitched, which would have garnered him a $25,000 bonus.
